Welcome to Steve Gainey – DJ Profile
Hi Guys my profile as soul music lover:
Been into Soul really since I was about 12 so was about 1970 loved the Motown sound buy was taken back by Chairman of the Board who really inspired my love of the music.
Got into Northern after leaving school in 1974 through a club in hull and somehow progressed to attending Wigan , then my love immersed into a serious fascination and addiction of buying of vinyl, attended other venues such as York Ebor Suite, Leeds Central, Manchester Ritz, Unity Warrina Stadium Peterborough along with many other excellent local underground venues. Although not a DJ have been lucky enough to play at some prestigious events, Brighouse Ritz, Bridlington Weekenders, South of France, Gothenburg, Hoochie Coochie along with many other great events.
Started collecting in 1974 with limited knowledge so often bought boots, re-issues until I attained some knowledge on what to look for and that knowledge I still search as I’m still a novice in the entirety of this brilliant scene. My real love now is 70’s Crossover music.
Looking forward to spinning few at this great event and for a wonderful worthy Charity.
Maybe play the likes of.
Trannells – Blessed with a Love – Flo Jo.
Al Williams – I am Nothing – Palma.
Brenda Jones – Big Mistake – Mercury.
Jimmy Bo – Horne – Just Can’t Speak – Dade.
George Hobson- Let it be Real – Sound City.
Welcome to Martyn Bird – DJ Profile
First dipped my toe into the northern scene in 1976 at a Doncaster All-Dayer ,quickly progressed to my first All-Nighter at Unity Hall Wakefield. After Unity my adventures took me over the Pennines to infamous Wigan Casino where I missed very few Saturday’s over the next 3 years or so.
I knew about Motown,Atlantic & Stax through my older brothers,so at my first All-Dayer I bought Blanche Carter-Halos Are For Angels GSF (boot) & a lifelong vinyl addiction was born 🙂
I’m a collector who happens to DJ on occasions & have quite an eclectic taste in northern soul, with one constant in my buying I like a good dancer. I find my tastes changing all the time as I hear different things all the time & my collection reflects these different influences. It’s always been about the next new tune to me so still find myself going to more up-front nighter’s or night’s.
I’m loving the Funky Northern,R & B,Latin side of the scene at the moment, some great dancers been played.
Over the years I’ve been lucky enough to DJ at some of my favourite night’s like The Wilton (one of the best nighters ever imo) Radcliffe,Empty Bottles,York Soul Club & a few more that have slipped my mind.
At the moment I’m helping run The Mojo R & B night in Hull where Mr John Parker is our resident DJ,well someone’s got to give him a job 😀
I struggle with top five’s/tens as by the time I’ve wrote them I’ve bought something new that belongs in them 😀
Five I’m hoping to play……………….
Lee Dorsey – Gaitor Tail Polydor
Damn Sam-Damn Sam The Miracle Man Tayster
Som Três – Homenagem A Mongo Odeon LP
Anna Belle Caesar- I’ve Got My Man Glad-Hamp
Zenobia Bonner-All Alone Accident

Welcome to Dani Herranz DJ Profile
I discovered the rare soul world in the mid-80s, through the Spanish Mod scene and the Kent compilations, which were a point-of-no-return in my life and marked the road to follow. Since then I have not been able to escape the obsession for vintage clothes, colourful shocks, Detroit 45s and niters in the middle of nowhere.
Promotion of events has been an important part of my life (it´s a dirty job but someone has to make it!!), the more well-known have been Autumn Mod Rally (90s), Big Thing (07-12) and SOMEDAY (14-18), the latter still up and running in Valencia (next date 21st April, you should make it!), with my mate Alber Acedos
In terms of DJing I will not bore you with a list of dos I have Djed in, just to say that I like to mix different tempos and sounds and rare/classic within the same set, focused into 60s, I try to follow some direction when I play (sometimes leading nowhere but hey!!, I try!!)
